I like the idea of the database but I would like to see if there is a way to automate the rescan of the directories. We add about 20 or so new files to four directories a day all under one master directory, and I don't want to give office staff backend access to the site just to update. There are way to many files to build this on the fly any more, so the database mode is really the only option.

So I have an issue with database mode and the same file in multiple directories. I have tested this it is a serious issue. I have many folders under a recordings main folder, and in each there are duplicates of some files. When I scan the folders to update the database which ever folder I scan last will list the duplicates and all others lose it. Physically the files are there but it is not listed on the site. I had to resort to putting a suffix on each file to differentiate the file names and rescan. This is a pain and looks terrible. Can you please look into this.

So I have an issue with database mode and the same file in multiple directories...

You're right about that. Commmedia check the name and size of every file when find it first and store in database every original file only once (You can use Scanning action in Commedia component to change the filepath), and if information of new file is equal to file in another folder, it stores only once in database.

So even if You'll move the file to another folder it'll found it and show old rating and download count. For some times it may be very conviniously!, for some sites - not.

I'll try to do something with that in the future.

Thanks for the GREAT component.

I have to agree with this! We are looking for an alternative component because it is not viable for us to run it manually each time we upload a file.

Do you have any idea when you might have a fix for this?

Thanks,
Paul.

Could You create any article with tags {commedia}path_to_Your_master_directory{/commedia} without database mode?

If You will know it's ID the path to that article will be:

http://Your_site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=ID

Then You could to give Your office staff that link. And when that page will load (it will loading slowly) information about new files should to add to the base, so the Commedia will show them on other pages that enable database mode.

Anyway to clear the lost files from database You need to rescan it of delete information from database manually.
